# LANTITE Numeracy Test: What It Covers

The LANTITE numeracy test's two sections, its three content areas, the processes it assesses and the maths in scope, from ACER's framework.

What the numeracy test covers, how its two sections work and the kind of maths that is in scope, from ACER's framework.

## Two sections

The numeracy test has 52 questions, then 13, in 120 minutes. Once you start the second section you can't go back to the first (ACER, Test-taking strategy).

An on-screen calculator is available for 75 to 85% of the questions and not allowed for 15 to 25% (ACER, Assessment Framework (2024), p. 23).

About the questions without a calculator, ACER says: "These questions typically use common numbers, fractions and percentages. Problems to be solved in Section 2 typically have a small number of steps and require only familiar and routine operations." (ACER, Skills and Content Guide (revised 2023), p. 9)

## Content areas

Questions are spread across three content areas (ACER, Assessment Framework (2024), p. 22, Table 11):

- Number and algebra: 40 to 50%
- Measurement and geometry: 20 to 30%
- Statistics and probability: 25 to 35%

## What the questions ask you to do

ACER sorts numeracy questions by process too (ACER, Assessment Framework (2024), p. 23, Table 13):

- Identifying mathematical information and meaning: 20 to 30%
- Using and applying knowledge, and problem solving: 45 to 55%
- Interpreting, evaluating, communicating and representing: 20 to 30%

## Everyday maths, not technical maths

The test sticks to non-technical mathematics (ACER, Skills and Content Guide (revised 2023), p. 10). Reading given points off a parabola is in. Finding its equation is out. Putting numbers into a formula you're given is in. Using Pythagoras' theorem to find a side is out.

In-scope topics include ratio and proportion, fractions, percentages, decimals, money, budgeting, interest, GST, time and timetables, 2D and 3D shapes, areas and volumes, and metric conversions (ACER, Assessment Framework (2024), p. 21, Table 10).

Questions use real-world settings and real data wherever possible (ACER, Skills and Content Guide (revised 2023), p. 9).
